What a roadworthy report involves

A roadworthy report answers a different question to a damage assessment. It is not about what a repair should cost, it is about whether the vehicle is in a condition to be used safely and legally on the road, and about recording that position independently so it can be relied on later.

The inspection covers the vehicle as a whole. We examine the structural condition, then work through the systems that determine whether it is fit to be driven: brakes, suspension, steering, tyres, lights and the general mechanical condition. Defects are identified and described plainly, along with what they mean in practice, so the reader can see the difference between wear that is expected for the age and mileage of the vehicle and a fault that makes it unsafe or unroadworthy.

Everything is documented as we go, with a photographic record of what was examined and what was found. The report then sets out the findings, the evidence behind them and a clear independent conclusion on roadworthiness. Because it is prepared with no repairer or salvage interest attached, and because the reasoning is written down rather than assumed, it holds its weight when it is put in front of an insurer, a fleet manager or a solicitor.

When you need a roadworthy report

Roadworthy reporting sits apart from crash damage work. It is the right instruction when the question is about the condition of the vehicle itself rather than the cost of a specific repair.

A roadworthy report suits

  • Insurers assessing vehicle condition or contesting whether a vehicle was roadworthy
  • Fleet operators needing independent condition checks across their vehicles
  • Legal cases and disputes requiring an expert opinion on roadworthiness
  • Post-repair verification that a vehicle has been returned to a safe standard
  • Pre-purchase and category-vehicle condition questions

Consider another service when

  • You need the cost of damage from a specific incident validated rather than overall condition assessed
  • The question is repair versus total loss on a live motor claim

Systems and standards

A roadworthiness opinion is only useful if it is independent and if the record behind it is complete.

Photographic evidence log

Every inspection produces a photographic record of what was examined and what was found, so the conclusion can be traced back to the evidence.

Qualified and accredited

Every report is signed by an IAEA member and IMI Certificated Automotive Engineer, with over 20 years of assessment experience across Ireland, the UK and Australia.

Fleet and single vehicle

Assessments are carried out for individual vehicles and for fleet operators, with scope and scheduling agreed in advance.

Written for scrutiny

Reports are structured for insurers, fleet managers and legal representatives, with the findings, evidence and reasoning set out in full.

Independent and defensible

Every roadworthy report is prepared independently, with no repairer affiliations and no salvage interests, so the conclusion is the same whoever instructs it. The engineer who inspects the vehicle is the engineer who signs the report, which means one accountable assessor on the file from start to finish. Turnaround is confirmed on instruction, based on the scope of the inspection and the location of the vehicle.
